Katrin Hanusch is a multidisciplinary artist based in London, UK.

Past, present and future intermix in Hanusch’s sculptures and site-responsive installations, that plunge the viewer into dystopian scenarios filled with sci-fi reliquaries that are strange yet familiar. Her protean work incorporates an unusual range of materials: among them you will find disassembled LED laptop screens and copper pipes, but also organic materials like leather, wood and fire cement, also washed ashore rope, or by-products of metal casting processes such as wax and discarded ceramic shell beside the metal cast itself. Processes are employed in disparate combinations ranging from manually crafted, botched or developed with hi-tech equipment. In connection with material, different frequencies, temporal scales and associations are registered in the works. Everything wants to be considered as sculptural medium, everything wants to be recognised in its potential and cherished in an alchemical transformation that turns material into an actant, proposing new organisms/objects created by our organic/biological/mineral/technical waste.

Hanusch’s approach is characterised by an examination of the human body that is subject to the cycles of life and death in a similar way as objects become the detritus of capitalism. This context evokes highly topical questions of consumption, waste, sustainability, and our relationship to the environment and one another.
